Laura Horton
Laura has an outstanding passion for and knowledge of dentistry. Entering dentistry in 1996 she has experienced many different dental environments: NHS, mixed, hospital, community, private and top end private cosmetic and orthodontic practices. Laura is a qualified and registered DCP, dental Radiographer and has a merit in Oral Health Education. She has also studied Business and Sales Management and Marketing at diploma level. Laura has extensive management experience in dentistry. She has worked with the USA’s leading coaches in her last employment which helped her to acquire many new skills that have been adapted and brought to the UK marketplace.
Laura’s passion lies with the training and implementation of the TCO role, she is the UK's Treatment Coordinator Consultant and has been responsible for the breakthrough and education of this role the UK dental profession.
Laura’s influential role in introducing the Treatment Coordinator role into UK practices (with her unrivalled and infectious enthusiasm) is how Laura Horton is making a name for herself as the latest "gem" in dentistry. She regularly lectures throughout the country on courses and at seminars on the value of the Treatment Coordinator role. A self taught dental photographer, she also teaches photography to BACD standard.
Laura enjoys holidaying, reading and keeping fit! As well as spending time with her family, fiancé and his daughter.
Melanie Joyce
Melanie has over eight years of experience in total as a DCP. She has treated patients in busy NHS/Private dental practices, teaching hospital and community settings, working with experienced clinicians. Melanie started out as a dental nurse and in more recent years has qualified with merit, as a dental hygienist and therapist. She also holds qualifications in management and teaching in addition to her dental qualifications. Over her career so far, Melanie has been active in the dental industry, doing voluntary work, teaching dental nurses, writing a number of educational and clinical articles for journals as well as taking the opportunity to be the North East regional co-ordinator for the BADN back in 2007. She now has the role as the North East representative for the BADT.
She is currently working as a dental therapist in a mixed private and NHS general dental practice in Leeds and the salaried dental service in Bradford. She is also an opinion leader for Ivoclar Vivadent. She is currently completing further advanced studies in her field, working towards a BSc in Dental Studies at UCLan in Preston. Melanie was shortlisted for Best Young Dental Therapist 2012 in the DH&T awards and most recently winner for 'Dental Therapist Of The Year' 2013 awarded at the Dentistry Awards.
Rachel Hughes
Rachel Hughes has worked in the dental industry for 17 years and has worked in a variety of different settings, gaining invaluable experience: NHS and Private practice, hospitals and in Corporate Dentistry. Rachel has achieved qualifications in Radiography and Oral Health Education. She has also attained the City and Guilds 7303 vocational teaching qualification.
Rachel still works as a dental nurse but is also the Clinical Treatment Coordinator for her practice as well as the Training Manager, she deals with all the in-house training in her practice. Rachel also teaches the National Diploma for dental nurses and Dental Nurse Network’s Advanced Impression Taking Course.
The Advanced Impression Taking Course with Rachel, involves dental nurses learning about Impression Taking for a variety of applications. Delegates can learn how to take impressions for: short term orthodontics such as Invisalign and Six Month Smile, teeth whitening, orthodontic appliances, sports and bite guards, primary denture impression taking and articulated study models.
Ann Hewitt
Ann qualified as a dental nurse in 1981 and has 33 years experience of working in both private and NHS practices and in hospital and emergency services. Her enthusiasm for dentistry led to further qualifications gained in Adult teaching, Oral Health Education, Radiography, Orthodontics, Impression Taking, Clinical Photography, Smoking Cessation, First Aid and Infection Control. Her goal at present is to re instil confidence in the dental nurse role by upskilling dental nurses, inspiring and uniting dental nurses into believing in a better future..
Ann currently works in a busy 10 chair open surgery orthodontic practice as a compliance manager. Part of her role is to ensure that nurses are fully trained and confident with their skills. She has the ability to work with others in a way that recognises their contribution and strengths and promotes collaborative working within multifunctional teams to achieve or surpass objectives. Ann sets high standards for herself and others and wishes to positively motivate dental professionals into being all they can be.
Ann Clarke
Ann Clarke is the owner of Survive Alive Ltd, providing professional resuscitation training for dental teams accross the United Kingdom.
Ann has more than 5 years experience as a “Responder” for South East Coast Ambulance Service dealing with a range of real life emergency situations, She has more than 20 years experience as a Dental Hygienist in a general dental practice. These combined skills provide the understanding of emergency situations that may arise in practice and the dedication to deliver realistic and valuable training, relevant to dental practices.
Hundreds of nurses have trained in impression-taking with Dental Nurse Network. The advanced impression-taking course is suited to registered dental nurses who aspire to treat patients directly and to take impressions under the prescription of a registered dentist or clinical dental technician. The course is suited to nurses working both in private settings and in the National Health Service.
