Too true hun What does the Senior nurse do. Does she help with your training or is it the Head nurse??? Ask the senior nurse or a dentist wot her role is tell him/her its for your college work as you need to know everybodies roles and where everybody is in the tree of the practice like as a family tree start with the prinipal and work you way down. include the roles.

I am a trainee dental nurse due to take my exam this Friday (01.06.12). I work at a large dental surgery with 8 dentists, 3 part time hygienists and 12 dental nurses- 10 qualified and 2 in training,
We have a head nurse, a senior nurse and then the rest of us. The head nurse is in charge of cross infection control and all the stock ordering for all the surgeries and heads up the central decontamination room. What the senior nurse does? Im not too sure, maybe she steps in when the head nurse is away. Not seen that happen thou. I see it as being there for a while and stamping some authority waste of money when u have a head nurse i think

ICL is the infection control leader, they deal with all cross infection areas within the practice and help to train new staff

Hey,
i'm the senior dental nurse in our practice. it was the role i applied for when joining.
I work with 2 trainee nurses and 2 newly qualified.
my role as senior nurse is really just to oversee the others and make sure they are following correct procedures etc..
I am also ICL and work closely with the practice manager and principle dentist to make sure we are up to date etc..

i enjoy my role, and get on well with my colleges, i think they see me as someone who offers guidance and support, not just a bossy boots - well i hope they do!!

Yes we have a senior nurse at my practice she has been with the dentist since he started to build his business, she is currently on mat leave, y
We have not replaced her while on mat leave, but she will undertake her role again on return,
She is also our ICL and works closely with the practice manager on the clinical side of things, we are all equal but it is nice to have someone to go to if you need to.

We are all treated as equal here as well even though there is only 2 of us. Im older and more qualified then my Colleque but we do the same jobs.

Hi guys, i'm looking for some feedback about senior nurses.

At our practice we currently don't have a senior nurse, the principle dentist thought it would be a good idea for all the nurses to be equal but i think its a good idea to have someone in charge ( not to boss everyone about though ! )

Do you have a senior nurse or not at your practice, i would love to hear your comments
