I use cold sterilisation for mine too. After sterilising them the first few times, I found they smeared the mirrors and seemed to damaged them so my dentist advised I just put them in the cold sterilising solution. I then dry them, wipe them over with a wipe and dry them after that too :)

Every dentist iv worked with like them done differntly, the most common ways are in cold sterilisers or scrubbed with hibi scrub. I read that they should still be auto claved but as you probably know, if you autoclave a photography mirror your dentist will not be happy with you.

we use cold sterilisation bath with enzygomatic solution in for minimum of 15 mins then we autoclave them - we use a non vacuum autoclave so its not bagged. i have only just started working in this new practice and this is how i have been shown to do it. but if you feel it harms the mirrors maybe i should discourage this and put it forward to them? as it will cost them more in the long run.
i would also be interested in replies x

Hi there

I don't work in practice but we never use any cold sterilisation for anything. Our are bagged and sent to sterilising. Our mirrors usually keep quite well. Maybe you could put them through your washers in a washer tub so it's not being thrashed around as much?

Hiya,

I've always been told not to autoclave photography mirrors and have put them in a cold sterilisation bath instead - gigasept. Hope this helps/confirms what you're doing already.

Hi, i posted a few months ago regarding Dental Photography mirrors and had a few resposnses which was good. Does anyone use cold sterilisation baths to decontaminate photography mirrors? We were sending our through to our decontam and they were getting autoclaved and getting scuffs/ scratches on them. We then thought about cold sterilisation. HTM0105 states refer to manufactures guidlines. I just wondered if anyone else has come up against this problem.
