to spray or not to spray

11 years 6 months ago #5165 by MLA
Alcohol has been shown to bind blood and protein
to stainless steel. The use of alcohol with dental
instruments
should therefore be avoided.
6.58 It is not good practice to refill spray bottles used to
apply cleaning or disinfecting solutions. Bacteria
can contaminate the bottles and become adapted to
these solutions and grow in the spray mechanisms
Such bottles, whether supplied pre-filled or empty, should be single use.

So, no alcohol on instruments but spray (any) is allowed as long as bottles aren't refilled.
:)
(there is a discussion that alcohol free wipes/spray damage the surface of more or less everything so...watch this space)

Morning...need some help and advise...surface cleaning and decontamination...HTM01-05 says about not refilling bottles but should we be spraying?
Has caused a debate at work and when you have several nurses with different views makes life interesting.
Ok some history on what we used and why debate has come about
We used alcohol wipes but also had spray and paper towels,we then moved to AF wipes which everybody hated as took forever to dry!!!
So decide just to use spray and paper towel which again caused problems and I did make sure staff aware about spraying into towel and not on surface...then HTM update came about not refilling bottles!!!!!!!So we have now found so wipes which staff seem to like(or so I thought) but still have some staff saying I want the spary as some areas wipes not get into but should we be spraying.
If anybody has a link to report or info would be very grateful....Thanks in advance
