GDC registration delay?

Hey
I qualified as a dental nurse about a month ago and am awaiting my certificate. I'm considering taking 6 moths off to go on a trip around Europe with a friend, would i be able to delay my registration with the GDC until after i get back, or would it be a better idea to register asap so it's done and 'out of the way'?
Also...would any of this affect my CPD?
Hope some people can help with my dilemma!!?!
