Hi I agree no matter what age a medical history should be taken on a regular basis.

Thanks a lot Kitty Kat

I thought as much Its just common sense that anyone that is treated by a dental professional regardless of age should have an up to date medical history, this just covers yourselves in an event of an emergency. Unfortunately my boss doesn't feel the same and is reluctant to do this, says things unnecessary, so me taking my being on a professional register seriously and knowing right from wrong will carry on taking for all.

Thanks again for your feedback

Theresa

Yes, you should be taking a medical history for every patient. At the practice where I work we take a full medical history/Dr's contact/next of kin details and get it signed.
At every subsequent appointment the medical history is updated and the patient signs it again. (It's also updated o Ln the computer system)
Take a look at the GDC hearings and there are a a lot of charges relating to GDPs falling to take medical histories.

Yes by law you have to have medical history form for every single patient, even babies. and it should be updated reguraly. there are so many people on warfarin or aleandronic acid and dentist are not supposed to do extractions on them in surgery, how would you know if you don't take medical history...

Hi guys

quick question here that someone could possibly help with

Do you have to take medical histories for everyone that has an appointment within your practice even children?

My feeling is that yes you should, as a child could equally suffer from something ie asthma or epilepsy and suffer an episode in surgery
and where would the land lie if you haven't taken a medical history.

I have searched online and cant find anything. My boss isnt sure and I sort of am.

Could someone answer me or direct me to where the info is

Thanks in advance
Theresa
