decon help

As long as the person in question has had their Hep B vaccination and you have provided adequate training and they are competent, then they can carry out decon. There is no requirement for decon nurses to be qualified, register or indemnified.

There is a BTEC course in dental decontamination. If she did this course she may be able to help, I don't think they have to be a fully qualified nurse.

Sorry to be the bearer of bad news but I'm almost 100% certain that anyone involved in decon has to be GDC registered so reception staff can't do very much to help. Try looking on the GDC website for advice but I'm sure that is the case.

We are a one dentist surgery too and I do all of the decon unless its busy and then my practice manager does it if I don't have time or we run over (she is also a dental nurse and has her vaccinations obvs) but I don't see why this would be a problem for you as long as she had her vaccinations. I don't think there is anything that says she can't do it as long as she is competant and shown what to do xx

Hi , we are a small one dentist surgery and I work in the surgery and do all the decon, this on the whole works really well but from time to time it can get really busy. Am I right in thinking that it would be ok to train up the receptionist so that she may be able to help out when it gets busy, obviously after receiving her vaccinations, or is there some other training course she would have to go on? Thanks in advance.
