Handpieces in a non vacuum autoclave

This is directly from the HTM01-05 document

Dental handpieces
4.7 Practices can seek the advice on the
decontamination of handpieces from the handpiece
manufacturer. Dental handpieces are constructed
with a number of features that are difficult to clean
and steriliize. The use of a validated washerdisinfector
may be successful provided that the
handpiece and washer-disinfector are compatible.
Where this is established, sterilization using a type
B or type S sterilizer is likely to be useful, although
it should be accepted that it is unlikely that sterility
will be achieved – whatever sterilizer is used – due
to the presence of lubricating materials. The
information above should be used by practices to
make an informed decision on the choice of
sterilizer (Type B, S or N).
4.8 If no validated and compatible washer-disinfector is
available, steam sterilization will generate a
reduction in contamination. Accordingly, progress
towards best practice may be seen as a further risk
reduction measure in this context.

Also this link explains it nicely as well. Steam sterilisation is the preferred method, but vacuum is ok too.

Hi guys
Maybe I've been at this game way too long and it's time for me to slip away
The question I have is that I have recently had a change of ownership of my 1 surgery practice and the new lady owner comes from a corporate background and boy it has thrown me everything is so fast we have no time anymore for our patients it's how many bums on seats we can get in 1 he and how much we can get in the till!!! I live on the east coast where predominantly most of our patients are elderly and won't be rushed
The GDP has paid for someone to come in who is can trainee and has virtually torn the practice apart! My main question is that she is saying that handpieces can't he put in a non vacuum autoclave and have to be in vacuum???? Since when is this apparent and we have to get a combi autoclave that you can switch to.either?
If someone can advise me pls
