Detergent or Disinfectant

Hello,
I was wondering if anyone could tell me if what the dentist is telling me is correct. When i was learning i was taught that after each patient you wipe everything down with a detergent wipe and anything visible like blood was then to be gone over again with disinfectant.
i recently informed the dentist that we need to order in more detergent wipes as we are running low but he's telling be to just use disinfectant wipes as they both do the same and detergent wipes are too expensive.
Should i just to what is says or is the way i was taught the way it has to be done.
Ive spoken to the other nurse about this and agrees that the order i do it in is correct but she only uses disinfectant.
