Typical, do you finds that the tasks you do at both practices are the same or do you do more at the £10.50 location?

£7.00 p/h for a newly qualified nurse sounds about correct to me. Frustrating I know...don't know if any other girlies would agree with me though.

Hi! I also just passed the national. I'm going to do radiography next :) i also fancy Sedation and some flouride applications, impression taking etc... Don't want to be a hygienist either. I have just started doing some locum nursing which is ace for your CV as you get to see loads of different approaches to treatment, it helped me adapt to new techniques and meet new people in the Dental Community :)

The goal posts have now widened. for all dental nurses. When I set out 26 years ago we cud become dental nurses and nothing else there wasnt the oppertunitys that there is now. I wished Id done hygeine. But 5 yrs ago i became an NVQ assessor/tutor for dental nurses for 3 years. upon being made redunadant i came back in to general practice. So if we ever have a new trainee nurse the dentist will know she/he will be in gud hands. But you do have to be qualified for about 2 yrs before becoming an assessor. Gud luck in what ever u decide to do.

Thanks for your messages! ;)

I've been looking into doing radiography, so I think that's maybe my next step :)

Just another question - How much should I expect to get p/h now as a qualified dental nurse? I'm currently on £6.50 p/h and my managers only offered me a 50p rise now I'm qualified

Is that about right? I can't help but feel slightly disappointed, and I was told if I wasn't willing to accept the 50p raise, then I was to look for another job.

Help !

Hi Tubs,

Totally agree. I first started dental nursing in 1993 (I know long time ago) Since then I have worked in general practice, orthodontics, private practice, specialist (oral surgery & implants) and worked for the MOD (Farnborough, Aldershot, Edinburgh and Rosyth). Along the years I have gained vast amounts of experience and CPD along the way. I also gained my Dental Radiography Certificate and the last practice I worked in I was the radiographer for the practice and responsible for my own patient diary and Quality Assurance. 18 years down the line I am now a Dental Nurse Tutor and loving every minute of it.

The world is your oyster.

Hi Tubs,

You can do whatever you want to do.

The list is endless of where you can go now, it just depends on what you want out of your career.

I have gained experience in many different areas of dentistry over the years but I was very set on not wanting to stay within a practice.

You will have to undertake further training/studying in whatever you decide to do so think long and hard about it first.
Talk to other dental nurses you know.

Good luck :)

Hello everyone! B)

Just after a bit of advice really, I've just passed the National, still waiting for my certificate so I can register with the GDC. I'm thinking of taking a break from studying for a few months, but I can't help but think about what I can do next? I do want to progress further within dentistry, I know I DO NOT want to become a hygienist!

Any idea's anyone? I'm turning 21 in November, so I'm still youngISH ;)

Help!

Love tubs x
